Labour weekend saw our second Trigoals camp held. Masterton was the venue for four days of good base training to set up the season for half and full Ironman athletes. The objective of the camp was to get solid mileage in without the emphasis on speed. The weekend was hugely successful and lots of fun. |

Labour Weekend 2007 |

Labour weekend saw our first Trigoals camp held. Masterton was the venue for four days of good base training to set up the season for half and full Ironman athletes. The objective of the camp was to get solid mileage in without the emphasis on speed. The weekend was hugely successful and lots of fun. The weather threw some challenges at us on the longest bike ride day. Some major winds got the better of a couple of bikes, but nothing a hot latte in Martinborough couldn’t solve to get the team back on the bikes and home to Masterton. Well done to all who participated and good luck for your summer races. Comments from Dawn, camp participant “I turned up to the Trigoals IM camp in Masterton knowing absolutely no one and having only had email contact with Vicki & Kevin. Over the next 3 days I was to get to the know some of the most wonderful people who were all driven by the same interests and passion and all of whom would fire me up out of a rather bleak and cold winter of training. The camp was run with professionalism, catering for all abilities from age group winners to first time starters, with Kevin and Vicki making everyone feel at ease in a friendly and relaxed environment. Support and encouragement was never ending, with Kevin and Vicki sharing their knowledge and experiences from many years of racing, training and coaching. After a long day on the saddle or a long day pounding the roads there was a never ending supply of homemade food waiting along with the right amount of banter and laugher to end of the day. The camaraderie` would go on well after the camp finished and still continues today around the roads of Wellington. I would recommend Trigoals training camp to everyone contemplating Ironman or to those who are looking for some long, solid training with expert advice along the way. It is an excellent environment for motivation and training with like minded people sharing valuable knowledge. “ Dawn Kelly |

Comments from Jenny Mackie camp participant “The Trigoals training camp was the beginning of something new for me, I turned up knowing only a few faces and nervous about the mileage we'd be putting in over the next few days. I was training for my second half ironman so knew the distances we'd be putting in were above and beyond anything I had done to date, however with varying abilities being catered for and a friendly bunch of fellow enthusiasts I was soon feeling at ease and loving all the action, banter, camaraderie and the lashings of homemade food at the end of it all. Over the course of the weekend, I made some great friends and training buddies, clocked up my first 3k+ swim, and the longest ride I'd ever done and was encouraged all the way, not only by Kevin and Vicki but also by the stories of the others on the camp and their encouraging words, so much so that at the end of it I signed up for Ironman and my something new had truly begun!” |
